Job Description: Provides leadership and direction while on the incident by implementing tactics such as; direct and indirect fire line construction, hot spotting, backfiring, burnout, aerial ignition, water delivery systems, tree felling, and mop-up operations. Job Responsibilities: Plans helicopter budget, including supplies, equipment, training, and personnel necessary for safe and efficient helicopter operation. Administers helicopter program budget and submits requisitions for supplies and materials. Serves as an Incident Commander, managing resources that vary from single resource to multiple resource task forces or strike teams. Responsible for helicopter safety and compliance with applicable policies and procedures. Plans, coordinates, and directs helitack crews in support of fire suppression including initial attack and on- going fires. Applies technical methods and procedures to perform a variety of duties relating to helitack operations to suppress wildland fires. Responsible for completing fire line safety and tactical briefings, fire size-up, fire reports and fire personnel performance evaluations. Determines incident needs; orders personnel, equipment, and supplies; directs and monitors initial incident activities. As Helicopter Manager, supervises the helicopter module on a regular and reoccurring basis while on and off the home unit. Supervises complex aviation operations, providing direction and oversight to pilots, firefighters, and aviation personnel. Assists in the development of training techniques related to helicopters and helicopter firefighting duties for the regional fire management program. Independently manages complex helicopter operations. Completes and maintains reports and records for aircraft use.
