The role of Private Secretary/Head of Private Office is varied and challenging, and will give the successful candidate an insight into the machinery of central government, as well as the Civil Service people agenda.
- They will work closely with lead officials to support informed and balanced decision making, and advise Rupert on key issues, ensuring he is appropriately briefed, making judgements on timing and level of detail. They will attend meetings with, and on behalf of Rupert, recording accurate minutes and ensuring action points are taken forward and tracked to resolution.
- They will also be the Head of Private Office, managing three Assistant Private Secretaries and a Diary Manager, and will be responsible for the learning and development of these individuals, as well as ensuring oversight of their portfolio areas.
- The individual will need to quickly build strong relationships across the Civil Service, including at senior levels, in order to influence and deliver through others. They must be capable of managing a demanding workload, working to tight deadlines, and responding to unexpected and fast-moving situations.
